On Sunday, December 4, nearly 600 attendees had the opportunity to share in the joy of historic preservation during the Historic Homes Holiday Tour! Generous private homeowners, the Broward Trust for Historic Preservation, and the City of Fort Lauderdale magnanimously opened the doors to their properties for the public to marvel and delight in what awaited them. This was an inaugural event for the Broward Trust and the Fort Lauderdale Junior Woman's Club and while there were certainly a few glitches, bumps in the road, and some hiccups, mostly rave reviews were heard from those in attendance. So many volunteers worked so hard as the unexpected demand for tickets pushed the preparation and logistics to extremes. We thank you for your patience and understanding if you encountered any issues. We are acutely aware of some of the transportation issues and that is our fault; when tickets sales skyrocketed after the Sun Sentinel article, we could not rent any more trolleys as they were all booked and for that we apologize. Rest assured that we have learned from our mistakes and we will strive to do better next year.
Thank you for attending and thank you for supporting our mission; it is so greatly appreciated. It is vital that we leave a legacy of our built history; future generations of residents and visitors deserve to enjoy the character and charm of these architectural resources. So many are disappearing so fast and that trend needs to stop. Thank you to the homeowners, our sponsors, our volunteers, the Sun Sentinel, and City of Fort Lauderdale staff who went above and beyond in ensuring a successful day!
We have attached a Broward Trust brochure for those of you who would like to join or renew your membership. You may also visit www.browardtrust.org. Perhaps you or someone you know might also be interested in assisting us by making a generous contribution towards the maintenance of the Annie Beck House owned by the Trust and always in need of tender loving care.
